“There comes a point in time where your media company gets so big, the only choice is to partner with the CIA,. I have always believed in promoting freedom, as well as promoting Bitcoin. With our partnership with the CIA, we can still do both but at an even faster pace,” David Bailey said on Twitter.
The two organizations appear to be working together to disseminate narratives globally. The CIA expressed interest specifically when Bitcoin Magazine announced they would be attempting to take over the world with Bitcoin podcasts.
CIA Director, William J. Burns told the Bugle that, “The CIA has been finding it incredibly difficult to work in foreign countries. They are catching onto our tricks. Embassies are getting attacked and governments are asking us to remove our foreign military bases from their borders. Partnering with Bitcoin Magazine in running their conferences allows us to exert our influence globally by disguising our agendas as Bitcoin related. We get to export democracy, and Bitcoin Magazine gets more funding to promote Bitcoin. It’s a win, win.”
While there has been much speculation that Bitcoin Magazine has partnered with the CIA before, this is the first time there has been an official disclosure of the partnership. The intelligence agency is not supposed to operate domestically, which is why foreign Bitcoin conferences have caught their attention.
Many in the community have complained about the partnership, suggesting that the CIA is anything but a bastion of freedom. Nayib Bukele was quick to point out what the CIA had done to El Salvador through the years, and that he was not a fan of Bitcoin Magazine working with the “Vanguard of the Fiat monetary system.”
Some have suggested that formal CIA partnership is a rite of passage for any media company, stepping into the status of legacy media. The partnership puts Bitcoin Magazine in the same class as CNN, Fox News, The New York Times, Twitter, Wall Street Journal, and many more. It is likely safe to begin calling Bitcoin Magazine, mainstream media.
