With Bitcoin price holding steady above $116,000, Japanese-listed Metaplanet Inc. has announced closing of substantial $1.4 billion fundraise. The company is also expanding its operations through new subsidiaries in the U.S. and Japan, while acquiring the Bitcoin.jp domain.

At Metaplanet’s recent extraordinary general meeting (EGM) for shareholders, the company announced that it now holds 20,000 bitcoin and that it has plans to acquire 190,000 more within the next two years with the help of Metaplanet Prefs, a new preferred equity offering.

At the same time, Smarter Web Company also announced the purchase of 295 BTC for $35.2 million at an average of $119,412.
Bitcoin price bounced back above $114,000 as Metaplanet purchased 463 BTC ($53.7M) at an average price of $115,895, bringing its total holdings to 17,595 BTC. The Japanese firm plans to raise $3.7B through preferred shares to reach its goal of acquiring 210,000 BTC by 2027.
